Why buy a top of the range TENS?
All the TENS in this section have more pulse modes ( between
five and twelve) than the TENS in the other sections ( usually just three).
The three common pulse modes are normal ( felt as a constant tingling),
burst ( felt as a two or so bursts of pulses every second ) and modulation
( felt as a massage effect or the tingling coming and going). Having three
pulse modes is fine for most patients. Most patients will find one pulse
mode which is most comfortable for them and will regularly use that one
pulse mode.
However, a significant number of patients do try different
modes in different situations, or will try different modes just so they
don't get used to the one mode. In the case of the Spectrum Max-SD,
one of it's five pulse modes was specially designed by Dr Jim Finney from
the Pain Treatment Centre, Fort Worth Texas, for use in patients with Reflex
Sympathetic Dystrophy, an uncommon but difficult to treat pain condition.
This particular pulse mode is a patented variation of the modulation mode,
and is felt as a very slowly changing pulse. Many patients find the special
mode useful for normal pain as well.
Another reason for buying a top of the TENS is they are
generally better made and usually have longer warranties than bottom and
middle of the range TENS.
Can I get a Rebate?
Most health funds provide rebates, some generous, for
all the TENS in this catalogue. Please check with your health fund.
Worker's Compensation / Third Party
Remember, if you have an injury claim under workers compensation
or third party and your doctor recommends a TENS for your pain, then the
insurance company may pay for the cost of the sale or hire of the TENS.
If we get approval from the insurance company, then we bill the insurance
company direct. Just contact us with your claim details. |

Spectrum Max-SD
Our most advanced Spectrum TENS, with five pulse modes. Rugged
construction and five pulse modes giving plenty of choices to patients
with various pain syndromes.
Most TENS machines on the market only have three pulse
modes. The most common pulse modes are normal ( felt as a constant tingling),
burst ( felt as two or so bursts of pulses every second ) and modulation
( felt as a massage effect or the tingling coming and going). Having three
pulse modes is fine for most patients. Most patients will find one pulse
mode which is most comfortable for them and will regularly use that one
pulse mode.
However, a significant number of patients do try different
modes in different situations, or will try different modes just so they
don't get used to the one mode. In the case of the Spectrum Max-SD, one
of it's five pulse modes was specially designed by Dr Jim Finney from the
Pain Treatment Centre, Fort Worth Texas, for use in patients with Reflex
Sympathetic Dystrophy, an uncommon but difficult to treat pain condition.
This particular pulse mode is a patented variation of the modulation mode,
and is felt as a very slowly changing pulse. Many patients find the special
mode useful for normal pain as well. Has specially designed form of stimulation
used for cases of reflex sympathetic dystrophy. This mode has also proved
popular with patients without reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
Clinical literature available: J.W.Finney et al. "Low
Frequency Transcutaneous Stimulation in Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy" J
Neurol Orthop Med Surg (1991) 12:270-273
Dual
channel. Variable pulse width and rate.
Five
pulse modes, including two different forms of strength duration, including
sympathetic stimulation.
Push
button mode select very popular due to ease of use.

Empi Epix-XL
Detailed clinical manual available on request. |
Epix XL
Probably the most advanced TENS on the market. Ideal for
those really difficult cases or for use in pain clinics.
Apart from standard features found on most machines, has
eight (8!) easy to dial preprogrammed regimens:
Extremely
Low Frequency: May be indicated for maintenance of pain control on
low back patients; or for highly sensitive skin that reacts to stimulation.
Dual
Pulse: Emulates popular high voltage galvanic sequence. Dual pulses
hold superficial skin senses in refractory to reduce sensation at the electrode
- still provide deep sensory activation. Burst to reduce accommodation
and avoid fatigue.
High
Frequency: Effects similar to Dual Pulse, but provides an apparent
low intensity for sensitive areas proximal to bone etc. May provide greater
localised paraesthesia in some acute topical applications.
Bi-Modal:
Permits treatment in two distinctly different pain areas. Allows for varied
patient treatment needs, while enhancing comfort. Intensity of either channel
can be adjusted to patient comfort and needs. Potential applications are
for neck/back pain, low back pain, and diffused pain.
Particularly good for patients who could benefit from
low-frequency, but have poor stimulus tolerance. When used in the same
area, the high frequency mode can work to mask low-frequency discomfort.
Ramped
burst: Preferred for the stimulus intolerant patient requiring dual
channel burst.
Alternating
Ramped Burst: For large area coverage such as diffuse back pain, or
several spinal segments.
Modulated
Amplitude: Varies spatial recruitment patterns, helping reduce habituation
and promote increased local blood flow through pumping action.
Random
Modulation: Has maximum resistance to accommodation or central nervous
system adaption because its random pattern does not allow predictability.
A solution to the most difficult pain management problems.
Five year warranty

Eclipse Plus
Since 1986, Masters Medical has been selling Medtronic brand TENS. These
TENS included the Neuromod, Comfortburst, Selectra, Comfortwave, Eclipse,
Eclipse Plus, MedTENS 100, Dynex II, Dynex III and Dynex IV. Some years
ago, Medtronic sold it's "external" stimulator, that is TENS, division
to Empi. Medtronic TENS brands current at the time of the acquisition included
the Eclipse Plus, MedTENS 100 and Dynex III. These were taken over by Empi
and added to their range of TENS and TENS accessories. The best known TENS
from Empi is the Epix-XL. Empi continues to sell the Eclipse Plus. The
Dynex and MedTENS 100 have been dropped.
Masters Medical sells the Eclipse Plus and Epix-XL as well as accessories
for current and older models of Medtronic TENS. Leadwires are available
for all these TENS. Unfortunately, the specialised battery pack for the
Comfortburst is no longer available. |
