| Empi TENS
Since 1986, Masters Medical has been selling Medtronic brand TENS. These
TENS included the Neuromod, Comfortburst, Selectra, Comfortwave, Eclipse,
Eclipse Plus, MedTENS 100, Dynex II, Dynex III and Dynex IV. Some years
ago, Medtronic sold it's "external" stimulator, that is TENS, division
to Empi. Medtronic TENS brands current at the time of the acquisition included
the Eclipse Plus, MedTENS 100 and Dynex III. These were taken over by Empi
and added to their range of TENS and TENS accessories. The best known TENS
from Empi is the Epix-XL. Empi continues to sell the Eclipse Plus. The
Dynex and MedTENS 100 have been dropped.
Masters Medical sells the Eclipse Plus and Epix-XL as well as accessories
for current and older models of Medtronic TENS. Leadwires are available
for all these TENS. Unfortunately, the specialised battery pack for the
Comfortburst is no longer available. |

Epix XL
Probably the most advanced TENS on the market. Ideal for those really difficult
cases or for use in pain clinics.
Apart from standard features found on most machines, has eight (8!)
easy to dial preprogrammed regimens:
Extremely
Low Frequency: May be indicated for maintenance of pain control on
low back patients; or for highly sensitive skin that reacts to stimulation.
Dual
Pulse: Emulates popular high voltage galvanic sequence. Dual pulses
hold superficial skin senses in refractory to reduce sensation at the electrode
- still provide deep sensory activation. Burst to reduce accommodation
and avoid fatigue.
High
Frequency: Effects similar to Dual Pulse, but provides an apparent
low intensity for sensitive areas proximal to bone etc. May provide greater
localised paraesthesia in some acute topical applications.
Bi-Modal:
Permits treatment in two distinctly different pain areas. Allows for varied
patient treatment needs, while enhancing comfort. Intensity of either channel
can be adjusted to patient comfort and needs. Potential applications are
for neck/back pain, low back pain, and diffused pain.
Particularly good for patients who could benefit from
low-frequency, but have poor stimulus tolerance. When used in the same
area, the high frequency mode can work to mask low-frequency discomfort.
Ramped
burst: Preferred for the stimulus intolerant patient requiring dual
channel burst.
Alternating
Ramped Burst: For large area coverage such as diffuse back pain, or
several spinal segments.
Modulated
Amplitude: Varies spatial recruitment patterns, helping reduce habituation
and promote increased local blood flow through pumping action.
Random
Modulation: Has maximum resistance to accommodation or central nervous
system adaption because its random pattern does not allow predictability.
A solution to the most difficult pain management problems.
