How to install a flat screen TV bracket
What’s great about having a flat screen TV is how much space it can free up in your living room when you install wall-mounted bracket, and how good it looks when it’s up.
This guide gives you step-by-step instructions to getting your screen on the wall with minimum fuss, and maximum style.
Select your spot and choose your bracket
First up you’ll need to think about your space and the type of bracket you’ll need. There are three main types of wall mounts to choose from:
- Fixed low profile – for maximum space efficiency
- Tilt & turn – adjustment to prevent reflections and improve viewing angle
- Full motion – for flexible viewing from a variety of angles in the one room
Getting started
Open up your bracket kit, lay out and check that all the pieces are there, and get all your equipment sorted.
This is a simple job but there are a few fiddly bits, so you’ll need to be organized from the start.
Step 1 - Fitting up the back of your TV
On the back of your TV you’ll find 4 mounting holes with protective screws in them. They should be pretty easy to find but if you’re not sure, check your manual.
Remove the protective screws and secure the mounting bars to the back of the TV with the screws from your kit.
Tip
- Never use a drill or powered screwdriver when you’re dealing with brittle materials like plastics. Thread the screw with your fingers and tighten with a screwdriver.
Step 2 - Mounting the wall brackets
Mark on the wall where you want your TV.
If you’ve got a stud wall, use your stud finder to locate the studs.
Now centre the mount in position, check that it’s level, mark your drill holes with a pencil and then drill the hole with the correct drill bit for your bolts.
Put your mount back up and thread all your bolts in. Tighten each one a turn at a time, until they’re all done.
Step 3 - Wiring up
Now’s the time to get all your media and power connections in place and check they work as it can get a bit tricky once the TV’s on the wall.
If you have a stud wall you may want to conceal all of your cabling in the cavity by making a hole behind where the TV will be and one down at floor level.
Always remember to check for power cables or plumbing!
Step 4 - Placing the TV into position
Flat screens may be slim but they can weigh a lot, so get a friend or two over to give you a hand lifting it up and placing it into position.
Step 5 - Sit back and enjoy
Don’t forget that you’ve earned the remote control rights from now on!
